Mammoth Council
03:08
|
|||
They sit there in their chairs
Trying to decide what the next move will be
Moving at a pace that’ll never win the race
Chuggin along – slow and steady
Do they compromise?
Do they even try to accomplish anything?
Running out of time, running out of steam
And we’re thrown into the boxing ring
Still, a mammoth council
Dictates our everyday
Lumbering through
Eternity’s way
Engorge themselves in power, unyielding to the masses
Wrap themselves in blinded opinion
Is this game of faction just promises of fiction
To benefit their own dominion?
They never see the danger in their quest for status
Turn a blind eye to reason
Vote the party line never compromise
Should be equivalent to treason
Still, a mammoth council
Dictates our everyday
Lumbering through
Eternity’s way

Seamstress
04:26
|
|||
I’ve got the time, if you’ve got the time
To loosen your grip, and this knot untie
While you pleat emotions, day after day
No more devotion – driving me away
She is my seamstress
Dress me up in riches
Plucking out the stitches
My little seamstress
Sells me to the witches
Plucking out the stitches
When life is good, and you’re high on luck
She’ll rip you apart, just to sew you back up
Her steady hands – they don’t even try
As they sew the seed of doubt in your mind
There’s nothing left now, I’m tattered – in shreds
A laceration running through my head
An operation so precise and fine but
I feel the stitches in that line
She is my seamstress
Dress me up in riches
Plucking out the stitches
My little seamstress
Sells me to the witches
Plucking out the stitches
She is my seamstress
Burning all my wishes
Plucking out the stitches
That wicked seamstress
Plucking out the stitches
One by one
Come undone

The Mist Among the Pines
04:03
|
|||
It occurred to me that the wheel won't steer
It's raining and the air's not clear
May be easier to pull off to the side
The windshield's fogged, my breath's to blame
A wooden cross and picture frame
Lay flowers on the side and waste my time
You wait in comfort for someone's company
As time speeds past, you're running fast
They don't come to your side
Ending up alone - a conclusion you'd forgone
That rationale, where is it now?
I guess your brain just lied
You walk along the roadside now
All alone and wonder how
In the mist among the pines you made your stand
Did the foe you thought you'd beat
Really fall down in defeat?
Did you cheat death or let him show his hand?
You wait in comfort for someone's company
As time speeds past, you're running fast
They don't come to your side
Ending up alone - a conclusion you'd forgone
That rationale, where is it now?
I guess your brain just lied
Cars just pass you by when you die
Life ends and you become a roadside memorial
Trees they hang low, and bushes will grow
Until they've swallowed
The memory of you whole

Spooky House
03:17
|
|||
You’ve been sleeping, you’ve been dreaming
You’ve been planning, you’ve been scheming
Leaving here is liberating
The fireplace is burning on its own
Toss and turn in the night
Something causing you a fright
Temperature is growing colder
Thermostat being lowered on its own
And you wait there alone for it to be gone
But you’re living in a spooky house
The silence is swerving, but the noise is unnerving
Cause you’re living in a spooky house
You’ve been watching every shower drain
You’ve inspected every window pane
Let your guard down and you’ll be sorry
Your new car has been starting on its own
Take the trash out - you get locked out
Nothing’s stirring – not even a mouse
This presence is growing stronger
You start thinking you’re no longer on your own
And you wait there alone, for it to be gone
But you’re living in a spooky house
The silence is swerving, but the noise is unnerving
Cause you’re living in a spooky house
You scream for help, but no one hears
When you’re alone in a spooky house
The bedsheet ghosts must dry your tears
When you’re trapped in a spooky house

Singularity
04:14
|
|||
Grasping for a word
Searching for a phrase
Hoping to be heard
Hope to catch your gaze
And then you turn away
Writing this shit down
Scrambling in the wake
Waiting for a moment
Look to catch a break
And then it all repeats
And then repeats...
Well you were always born
And you were always dying anyway
Well I was always torn
And I was always prying you away
What can I say
Looking in your eyes
Laughing in the dark
Sifting through the lies
Need to find a spark
And then you go that way
Writing this shit down
Scrambling in the wake
Wanting for these things
To all fall into place
And then it all goes blank
And then my mind goes blank...
Well you were always born
And you were always dying anyway
Well I was always torn
And I was always prying you away
A prisoner of the present
Always on the cusp of something great
We never find tomorrow
Because we all know that tomorrow comes today
I like where I am but I miss where I’ve been
I hate where you are and don’t know where you end
I go back to my roots and dig in the dirt
Then I go back to the place where it hurts
You’re always there but never around
I feel like I’m driving myself to the ground
Nothing is ever as it was going to be
And that is exactly how it’s always gonna be
Somewhere I’m always waiting for you
Hoping you were always looking too
Well you were always born
And you were always dying anyway
Well I was always bored
And I was always hiding me away
I’ll never find you here
But I need to get off my ass here anyway
You’ll never find me there
You need to give me one chance to say
What can I say?
We never find tomorrow
Because we all know that tomorrow comes today
What can I say?

This Side of the Grass
06:29
|
|||
We went up to the woods
Where the land fell down to my home
My brothers and I
Pat Brown and the Bear
Had blue dreams under pines
Ray and myself walked up
Through the fields where you and I lay
Where his boy once played
The snow fresh fallen
Untouched by man that day
The sun shining low in the western heavens
We walked quiet to places we’d forgotten
Darkness fell and the woods closed in
Round the fence posts all warped and rotten
Silence consumed us and shut out time
Thoughts took hold and no words were spoken
Looked on in stillness at mist and mountains
Loved ones, brothers, hearts that were broken
And there I sat with my thoughts and waited
Mistakes and regrets and all that I hated
Last I’d been you were by my side
Misplaced efforts to forget I tried
You came back to me in that moment
In visions of your love so potent
Palpable memories of your embrace
Freed the silent tears upon my face
Why did I try?
You strengthened my walk, brightened my life
Whenever you walked right by my side
Yet small and vulnerable I felt before you
Nothing was there from you I could hide
In the silent forest, I could see clearly
How I was now, the other side longing
A damn fool I was for what I had done
Your heart too broken, my pain prolonging
So I walk in that moment, in days that follow
With a heart so heavy, a heart that is hollow
You learned then now to live without me
How much I needed you I could now see
The Bear, and Ray and Pat Brown close by
Keeping upon me a very close eye
This side of the grass I walk alone for now
To maybe one day find you again somehow
Why did I try?
We walked out from the woods
Where the land fell down to my home
My brothers and I
Pat Brown and the Bear
Both smiling close by
Ray and myself walked down
Through the fields where you and I lay
Where his boy once played
The snow fresh fallen
Backtracked by my brothers that day
Cannot say I know
What each of us thought that night there
My brothers and I
But my revelations
I will keep in heart and mind
Why did I try?

Nowhere Left To Run
06:15
|
|||
Winter time again and the snow starts falling
The bell rings they leave early, grab their jackets
Out the door the world is calling
In the window old folks sit
They can remember it
So clear is their youth
But the storm it doesn’t stop
The neighbors keep shoveling,
Making small talk, but the whiteness piles up
They ask if it’s the end
They try but can’t pretend
To imagine that the skies will clear
One by one the houses lose power
The world it grows colder by the hour
The radios all say the same thing –
There’s nowhere left to run
So I’ll stay here with you
To see the night through
If it’s the last thing we do
When there’s nowhere left to run
Now we’re sitting in darkness
If the earth had a heart,
It must now be heartless
It’s core frozen to ice
God, it must be nice
To just quit and go to sleep
But we can’t explain what’s happening
Less than a year ago it was getting warmer,
Now warmth is a pipe dream
The sun has drifted away
And we’ve been left to stay
In a dark and frozen land
All transmissions are gone
Nothing’s left to turn on
Only one thing’s left to see –
There’s nowhere left to run.
So I’ll stay here with you
To see the night through
If it’s the last thing we do
When there’s nowhere left to run
